Commando Trust Veterans Scholarship Program

The Commando Welfare Trust has joined forces with Lockheed Martin Australia and Wandering Warriors to launch a new education program for special forces veterans

The Commando Welfare Trust in partnership with Lockheed Martin Australia and Wandering Warriors are delighted to announce the launch of The Commando Trust Veterans Scholarship Program.  The aim of the Program is to support the re-training of Australian Special Operations veterans as they transition into the civilian workforce.

The Program has been established with the generous support of Lockheed Martin Australia who have provided an endowment of $120,000 to be paid over 4 years. The funds will be allocated as six $5,000 scholarships each year.

Scholarship recipients will be able to choose from a list of approved courses which will provide participants with desirable, transferable skills and capitalises on the strengths that Special Operations veterans already possess.  The four full qualifications available under this Program are: Certificate IV in Leadership and Management; Team Leader Improvement Program; Project Management Diploma; and a Diploma in Work, Health and Safety. There are also 11 partial courses that recipients can undertake.

Recipients will also be mentored by Lockheed Martin Australia executives as they complete their training.

The scholarship program will be administered by Wandering Warriors who have significant experience in providing support to Veterans looking to re-focus their lives and connecting these individuals with further education or retraining.

At our recent black-tie dinner in Sydney where the program was announced, Chairman of the Commando Welfare Trust, Brigadier Mark Smethurst DSC AM (Ret’d) said the program would make a real impact in the lives of Australian Special Operations veterans and their families.

LMA Chief Executive, Joe North, spoke at the dinner about Lockheed Martin’s involvement in the program saying “Lockheed Martin Australia is committed to supporting and improving the lives of those, and the families of those, who have served and sacrificed for our country”.  “The Commando Trust Veterans’ Scholarship Program recognises Special Operations veterans possess many attributes and transferable skills such as leadership qualities and project management skills that, once harnessed through training and mentoring, can lead to career opportunities in the civilian sector.” he said.
